In this two minute video I talk through what I believe is the basis for creating a great actors headshot. There are three fundamental elements that I consider:

  • It has to look like you! That might sound obvious, but it's easily over looked. There's no point in having a glamours, perfected, retouched image that looks nothing like you. My aim is to create a headshot that looks just like you, on your best day.
  • An interesting and engaging expression can separate you from the rest. Just a subtle hint of expression is all that's needed to captivate the viewer of your headshot, rather than looking bored or a blank canvas showing a little personality can elevate your headshot considerably.
  • Variety is key. Having just one or two good headshots is okay, but having a portfolio of images that showcase your variety in terms of your playing age and casting type are key to an effective headshot.
